Since the very first launch of the Samsung
Galaxy Fold. The South-Korean tech giant is all geared up to launch Galaxy Fold
2 the successor to the last year’s model. Now keep this thing in mind the
Samsung Galaxy Z flip which launched alongside the S20 series. Is completely in
a different category. It has been rumored that the Galaxy Fold 2 will keep the
same design as we saw on the Fold. It has been rumored that Samsung is focusing
more on the display department of the Fold 2 this year. We are going to talk
about more in-depth leaks of the Fold 2 in this article.
Galaxy Fold 2-Release date.
Now the rumor suggests the release date of
Fold 2 to be around at the end of July or August 2020. Which clearly indicates
that the release date will not be affected due to the current COVID-19
situation. Which is a good news considering that company like Apple is going to
delay the launch date of the upcoming iPhone12. Ross Young, CEO of Display
supply chain consultant also confirmed the August release date of Fold 2 in a
tweet.
Foldable Flagship!
Like other current 2020 flagships, Samsung
Fold 2 will be powered by Qualcomm snapdragon 865 coupled with either 8 GB or
12 GB of ram. XDA developer, Max Weinbach also tweeted that this year’s fold
will come with snapdragon 865 chipset. Now this time Samsung is going to adopt
256 GB option for storage also as base variant. To keep the price down. As last
years fold only came with a 512 GB option. And thankfully, this year’s Fold
will also come with a MicroSD slot which is good news for Samsung fans as
Samsung ditched the MicroSD slot from S10 onwards. It will be 5G ready too as
usual because all the flagships this year are offering this standard.

Galaxy Fold 2-Display.
As I said earlier, the biggest upgrade on
the Fold this year will be its “display”. Ross Young tweeted that the outer
display will now measure in a 6.23 inch bigger in size. Which is a huge upgrade
considering from the last year’s Fold the front display was only 4.6 inch with
huge bezels. Which looked uglier. The inner display will be 7.59 inches longer
with a 1440p QHD+ resolution. Now interestingly enough, the inner (main)
display will have a refresh rate of 120 Hz as seen on S20 ultra. But
unfortunately, the outer display will have a normal 60 Hz refresh rate. Both
inner and outer displays will feature a hole-punch camera setup instead of
in-screen. It will also feature an upgraded version of ultra-thin glass “UTG”
as we saw on the Galaxy Z-flip. Now the main thing which Ross pointed out is
that both inner and outer displays will feature an “LTPO” display technology.
For those of you who are unaware of LTPO. Basically, LTPO simply means “variable
refresh rate”. There is only one technology which smartphone companies are
adopting “LTPS”. LTPO consumes less battery over LTPS about 15%-20%. It varies
refresh rate from 1 Hz-120 Hz depending on app usage. While LTPS display only
varies from about 60 Hz-120 Hz. This inclusion will give more bump over its
competitors like the iPhone 12.

Galaxy Fold 2-Cameras.
Now the Samsung galaxy Fold 2 will also
feature an upgraded cameras over last years Fold. Max Weinbach confirmed that
the Fold 2 will feature a the same camera modules as found on the S20 plus. A
12 MP main shooter, 64 MP telephoto camera which will produce high quality zoom
photos upto 3x (optical). A 12 MP ultra wide camera. And a time of flight TOF
sensor for depth sensing. Now for the front camera Samsung always tends to use
a 10 MP selfie shooter. So this time its not different it will feature a 10 MP
punch hole camera on front. Unfortunately, we will not be able to see 108 MP camera
found on S20 ultra which everyone hoped for.
S Pen Comeback!
Interestingly enough, Samsung this year
will likely feature an embedded S-Pen on the Fold 2 which is kind of
surprising. Since Samsung already use an S-Pen with their Note series. Max
Weinbach claimed that the features of the S-Pen used on Galaxy Fold 2 will be
the same as found on Samsung Galaxy Note 10. Like the use of Bluetooth remote
for taking selfies and air gestures. If so this would be a plus point for many
Note fans.
Galaxy Fold 2-Pricing.
It has been speculated that the expected
price of Fold 2 will be less than that of first-generation Fold which was
around 1890$. There will a cut in price as said by Ross Young around $1780 to
1980$, with 1880$ to 1895$ depending on the market. As Samsung will launch
multiple models of Fold 2 this year such as Fold 2 lite which will be the
youngest brother of Fold 2 lineup. There will be some sacrifices by Samsung on
this model such as removing the “UTG” glass from its display. There will be
only one variant which will be 4G ready and will come with a 256 GB storage
option. It will cost around 1100$. Max Weinbach also rumored that Samsung will
also launch a limited “Thom Browne” edition for Fold 2 with ceramic back and
stainless steel costing around 3000$. Now Ross Young suggested in a tweet that
the Galaxy Fold 2 will serve as the ramped-up version of the Galaxy Note 20 and
will be called as “Note 20 ultra”. As Samsung this year will launch only two
models of the Galaxy Note 20 this year. I’ll keep you updated if I get more
updates regarding this device!
